タイトル:Throwing Darts with a Trebuchet, Proof of Concept

This weekend was my first foray into throwing darts. I made darts from oak stair balusters. Used 1/2″ lag bolts to give them more weight forward and used some poorly-tempered nails (easy to bend to shape) as the hooks for the double-release sling. Using Garbo my small trebuchet with 5 sandbags, about 250 lbs. Darts weigh a little over a pound apiece, they are probably 1.25lbs. I had to remove the cross-brace to make sure the darts would clear and then modify the trigger setup. First shot the trigger cord on the arm snagged the sling. Second shot was success! Darts might have gone 300 feet? I lost the sling in the bushes so I added a “flag" to the sling to help find it. I need to put the flag on the other end of the sling for less drag. Darts were not impacting with much force, I think the fletchings were slowing them down a lot and I could trim the fletchings. Darts were pretty light for the amount of counterweight. Two darts at once was an easy success also. Could probably do three darts at once but I wouldn’t want to do six at once. Concept is solid.
